Sports Medicine

We provide non-surgical regenerative treatment options for those suffering from arthritis, joint or bone pain, torn or strained tendons and ligaments, spine conditions and injuries, and other degenerative orthopedic conditions. We offer a viable alternative for those suffering with chronic pain and who may be considering elective surgery.

Prolozone

Prolozone is a natural regenerative therapy used for any kind of joint pain or injury. Due to the nature of ozone, it can work synergistically with the body; providing nutrition and oxygen supply to a specific area or joint. We know that the main cause of degeneration or aging is lack of nutrition and oxygen.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP is an innovative, non-surgical treatment for a wide variety of medical challenges. Blood is withdrawn from the patient, then spun down in an FDA approved, surgical grade centrifuge where the platelet-rich portion of the blood is extracted.

Stem Cells

Stem cells are basically repair cells looking to do a job. They are sitting around in bone marrow, spleen, lymphatic systems waiting for us to cut ourselves, skin our knee or have a bit of an arthritic change in our joints.

This can be caused due to deficit, or it can be caused by poor circulation since red blood cells are responsible for transporting nutrition and oxygen to a given tissue. As with any living organism, if necessities of life are not available, they degenerate and even die. Can we stop the aging process, no; but can we slow it down and make it more enjoyable, absolutely!

Prolozone therapy is a natural, non-surgical, and minimally invasive treatment made of two parts. The first part of the procedure adds the nutrition back into the injured area (i.e., vertebrae, ligament, tendon, muscle, connective tissue, joint space, etc.). This is done by injecting a syringe of liquid vitamins and minerals into the area. Among this solution of vitamins and minerals are homeopathics which aide in the control of inflammation and swelling allowing better circulation. Obviously this is vital to the delivery and assimilation process.

The second part of the process is the ozone. Ozone is given soon after the vitamin and homeopathic solution, infiltrating the area and spreading the solution further than an injection alone can carry it. Ozone increases circulation, allows the vitamin solution to spread further and deeper into joint spaces, modulates inflammatory responses and expedites healing.

The combination of these two elements cause the proliferation, regeneration, and rebuilding of new ligament and cartilage tissue in areas where they have become weak and unstable. Unlike steroid injections, which only lower inflammation for a short time, prolozone has been shown to assist in new tissue development, making it not only a pain management option but also an alternative to surgery, saving you time and money.

The PRP portion of the blood is chock full of growth factors. Growth factors have been shown to improve the growth and stimulation of collagen tissue including blood vessels and fibrin. In the case of joint pain or injuries tendons, ligaments, vessels, and skin are all influenced by the infusion of growth factors with a PRP injection. PRP has become a more standard orthopedic treatment. PRP works, in part, because the endogenous growth factors reduce inflammation. PRP can be injected into joints and tissues, releasing large amounts of these growth and healing factors to repair mild to moderate osteoarthritis, meniscal tears and tendon injuries.

PRP is not a stem cell treatment since blood does not house a good source of stem cells. However, stem cell treatments are an additional option for joint pain, injury and repair at Anatara Medicine and SF Stem Cell Center. We are happy to review the best options for you at your consultation.

Stem Cells for Sports Medicine

What are stem cells?

They are basically repair cells looking to do a job. They are sitting around in bone marrow, spleen, lymphatic systems waiting for us to cut ourselves, skin our knee or have a bit of an arthritic change in our joints; they are ready to go into action. They use growth factors to heal wounds and repair damaged tissue.

Stem cells tend to go where they are needed. It is a signaling-molecule activity based on a homing system although the homing system is not well understood. This level of intelligence has not yet been elucidated.

Maybe you are asking yourself, “How do I take advantage of the fact that we can now identify stem cells, purify them and treat ourselves with them?”

There are two types: Embryonic and Mesenchymal.

Embryonic stem cells are PLURIpotent cells that can become ANY cell in our body and they can only be found in the embryo. We do not use those in the United States for obvious ethical and moral issues; but it’s very normal in UK for example, to use embryonic cells.

Mesenchymal stem cells are MULTIpotent cells that can only become tissue and cartilage and some other cells in our body. They are found in the fat, umbilical cord tissue, umbilical cord blood, a little in the placenta, and adult and baby teeth.

Adult Mesenchymal cells – derived from the adipose (fat) tissue in one’s body, divide every few days.

Young Mesenchymal or Umbilical are the type of stem cells we use for most knee problems. They are derived from the chord blood of healthy born babies via elective C-section. They divide every 4-6 hours. Over time, you can imagine the difference in potential. In a lab and petri dish, they behave more robustly than adult cells.

Processed in a sterile way, typical umbilical chord can get 100’s of millions, even billions of cells. They can be stored properly over even 30-40 years and still be active.

How do we know they are safe?

They are processed in a way that third party labs can validate there is no communicable disease, which is all done through Federal Regulation.

So they are safe AND active and viable.

Out of 10,000 cases reviewed, roughly two thirds are used for joints; and roughly two thirds of those, are used for knee injections. This means they are used to address knee pain or in place of surgeries generally used to address arthritic change.

This means that if you are experiencing knee pain of any kind and either haven’t seen a doctor to address the problem yet, or the other extreme, have been told you are in need of a total knee replacement, stem cell medicine could be the perfect solution for you.

The in-office procedure only takes about an hour. It is a very minor procedure with very little pain or discomfort. There is essentially no down time or recovery time. No hours every week spent in physical therapy or in follow up visits. No ugly scars or scary scopes, pins, rods, plates or other types of foreign objects in your body. In fact this is a type of medicine and therapy that your body would thank you for.
